Two Hoots Glamping Site
Peaceful countryside accommodation in prime Hampshire

Meet the Locals

We adore our site’s peaceful countryside location and are so lucky to be able to share it with some of ‘The Locals’ who we hope you also get to see.

Below is a selection of both some of our regular visitors and one of our most elusive visitors…..

We’d love for you to please share any great pics you manage to take of the wildlife living at Two Hoots, on any of our social media pages.

‘Kanga’ the Hare
Kanga is an extremely large & handsome hare who loves to hide in the wild meadow field. We call him Kanga as he looks like a kangaroo when he stands on his back legs with his arms up. He loves to occasionally show off his rapid turn of speed.

‘Frank’ the Pheasant
Frank likes to make his presence known by squawking and then fluffing his feathers. He can be friendly and seems to be quite relaxed about being near to us humans. He is also a fast runner and you often find him hovering near to the Shepherd’s Huts.

The Lavender triplets
The Lavender triplets are a funny bunch. Named after their colour, these Guinea Fowl are great watchdogs, as they make an almighty racket to alert each other if they are disturbed by humans or if there are predators nearby.

‘The Red Arrows’ aka the Red Kites
Red Kites are medium to large birds of prey that seem to adore gliding around on thermals in the air above our site. We seem to have a ‘squadron’ of 7 red kites who you tend to find overhead in the afternoon. They are beautiful to watch.

‘Stealth’ the stag Deer
Stealth occasionally appears when you least expect him to. Often found standing statue-like in one of the adjoining fields. Rest assured he has likely seen you before you see him.

‘Spartans’ the Rabbit warriors
The Spartans are constantly waging their own war with us through their attempts to build a new underground tunnel infrastructure and colony. Typically, they launch their most ferocious campaigns each summer. Don’t be fooled by their cuteness!

The ‘Squezzle’ family – our resident squirrels
The Squezzles make themselves at home in our wooded copse area and seem to happily come out to play day or night. If you are staying in one of our pods, they are quite likely to jump onto your roof and sit staring at you when you are chilling.

Glow-worms – our glow-in-the-dark Beetles

Glow-worms are not actually worms, but Beetles! It is only the female who has the nightly-glow which is a wonderful sight to witness. They seem to prefer living in areas where there is low/no light pollution. On our site they are typically to be found in our small wooded copse area.

Butterflies – our rainbow friends
Since creating our wild meadow area we have seen a marked increase in both the number and different types/colours of butterflies at our site. Some days we see what seems like a full rainbow of butterfly colours which is such a heart-warming sight.

‘Mewling cat’ Buzzards

We often see Buzzards overhead putting on a fantastic display of their aerial capabilities which seems to re-enforce their reputation as ferocious predators…..well at least until they frantically depart when chased away by crows and other much smaller spirited birds making mewling cat noises as they flee!

Barny – our resident Barn Owl
Our small wooded copse area has a selection of bird, bat and owl boxes which we think may be why Barny can often be spotted there. Usually he is in ‘silent assassin mode’ and rest assured he has seen you before you see him!

*New accommodation* at the Bee Hotel
Our site seems to encourage Bees to regularly visit for short stays during certain times of the year. We think this is because of the appeal to them of our wild meadow area and the selection of tree stumps we have in our small wooded copse area. We have also installed some Bee Hotels to also give them a place to stay whilst visiting us.

Acro-Bats

We think there is only one bat living in or near to our small wooded copse area. Only ever seen at dusk, he loves to perform a wide range of stunt flying manoeuvres. We will be installing more bat, bird and owl boxes in the wooded copse soon which we hope will encourage more visitors in the near future.

‘Scarlet’ – the Tiger Moth
Still quite a rare sight at Two Hoots but we do occasionally have visits from Scarlet Tiger Moth(s) which are amazing to see up close. Usually seen flying in the late afternoon on sunny days.

"A fabulous stay at two hoots. The shepherds hut had everything we needed and the log fire was heaven. Can’t wait to come back"
